SALSA
/ CLUB LATINO DANCING
This
is the most popular dance form at present. The music comes
from the Caribbean and is hot and fast. Salsa is a rhythm not a dance. Many foot
actions fit the rhythm and styles vary according to where you are in the world
or even which part of the country you are in. Salsa
is normally danced in clubs on small floors where space is limited so actions
are fast and close, turns tight and close to partners, arms kept short. Another
popular rhythm from the Dominican Republic is the Merangé. This is a single
beat dance with lots of hip and body action. Foot patterns are simple but arm
shapes, actions and moves can be varied and complexed. Mambo
used to be a separate dance but the Salsa dancers now incorporate many of the
Mambo moves and actions into Salsa itself.
Salsa is currently taught in all our Beginners Classes for Social Dancing
